I was born in Los Angeles, California in 1953, the middle of three children. My father struggled as a TV repairman (although we always had the best TV on the block) but eventually worked as an engineer in the space industry for many years. My mother was dedicated to raising our family and then became a bookkeeper later in life. My education has always been tilted towards the sciences and I became an Emergency Room Physician in 1983. I have practiced full-time emergency medicine in Los Angeles since then.

Writing has been a passion of mine as far back as I can remember. This is in no small part due to my mother. She has written children’s stories since I was very young and has quite a collection that I hope she will decide to publish one day. As a husband to my high school sweetheart, a father of four wonderful children, and a full-time practicing physician, I have found it very difficult to find the time to write. Although I am more fortunate than most, turning forty was a sobering experience for me. I had no morbid inclination that I would not make it past fifty, but looking back at the past four decades I realized that I had not accomplished all that I had hoped. So, at age 40, I started writing a novel and studying the marshal art of Aikido.

Writing continues to be a tricky business for me. I still remain overextended. While driving I find myself relying on a digital recorder to save my ideas. Vacations, airplane travel, and late nights are the only times I have to develop ideas and synthesize stories.

In my medical practice and in my non-fiction reading, I am always struck by the fact that very bad things happen to good people. This is the plight of John Harris and his family in my first published novel: The Victim Donor. If it can happen to this family living the American dream, it can happen to you.
